  • Overview

    Identifies savings and process improvement opportunities; establishes collaborative relationships internally and externally; develops sourcing strategies; negotiates with suppliers; collaborates with department to aid in internal approval process.


    • Reviews requisitions and issues purchase orders using purchasing system. Interviews suppliers to obtain information concerning product, price, and ability to produce product or service, and delivery date.
    • Ensures delivery of parts from supplier occurs in a timely manner. Studies supply chain to identify any delays/discrepancies in delivery process. Works with suppliers to determine causes of delays and develops/documents plans to prevent reoccurrence.
    • Assesses supplier bids and recommends selection based on price, quality, delivery, and capability. Based on requisition requirements for certain items.
    • Coordinates technical meetings with suppliers and internal departments to ensure requirements are met. Audits suppliers to understand if requirements can be met.
    • Manages external SMH assets and audits conditions as needed.
    • Resolves supplier issues and coordinates internally for resolution.
    • Purchases, tracks and understands market for more complex commodities.
    • Manages product purchasing costs to identify cost improvement opportunities.
    • Offers recommendations for improvements to the purchasing processes.
    • Provides purchasing support for new businesses as assigned.
    • Develops skills in other Supply Chain functional areas such as: Production Control, International Trade, and/or Logistics.
    • Learns and works toward performing Syteline, SuperUser job duties.
    • Investigate and reconcile invoice discrepancies for purchase price variances.
    • Expedite orders as necessary. Identify actual and potential delivery problems and take proactive steps to inform appropriate Operations personnel.
    • Ensure goods are delivered by the most economical transportation method.
    • Review inventory on a periodic basis as to economic order quantities for the best applicable products.
    • Develop and administer system contracts or blanket supply agreements with qualified vendors who have proven to provide the best service and overall lowest costs.
    • Establishes and maintains rapport with all levels of supplier personnel and internal customers.
    • May perform other duties as required.


    • 5-10 years’ experience in purchasing/sourcing with extensive experience in the manufacturing industry
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Power point.
    • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, leadership, problem solving and communications skills.
    • Time management and project management skills.
    • Strong computer skills, ideally MRP systems, Syteline, preferred.
    • Ability to work independently and resolve conflict in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks, with awareness of deadlines.
    • Skilled at reading engineering drawings.
    • Ability to travel 5%
